Own True A Piece Of Histroy From WWII

10 Troy Ounces Of Pure .999 Silver

The SS Gairsoppa was a British merchant ship torpedoed in 1941, sinking with roughly 2,800 silver ingots (around 110 tons) intended for the Royal Mint. Discovered in 2011 at 4,700m depth, Odyssey Marine Exploration recovered 99% of the silver by 2013, the deepest and heaviest precious metal recovery from a shipwreck.

Key Details About the SS Gairsoppa Silver:

      •     The Sinking: On February 17, 1941, a German U-boat torpedoed the ship about 300 miles off the Irish coast. It was travelling from India to Britain with 2,600 tons of pig iron, tea, and silver.
      •     The Salvage: In 2012 and 2013, over 100 tons of silver ingots (nearly 2,800 bars) were recovered by Odyssey Marine Exploration from a depth of nearly 3 miles (4,700 meters).
      •     Value: The silver was valued at around £600,000 in 1941, but the recovered haul in 2013 was estimated at over £137 million ($210 million USD).

Ownership: Odyssey Marine retained 80% of the recovered cargo value, with 20% going to the UK Treasury.
